The Webbed Lace Collar

It’s hard to believe that Halloween is less than a month away!
I wanted to share this pattern with you so that you would have enough time to make it before the holiday and wear it if you’d like.

This design actually came about by accident, which is how most of my designs come about LOL! I was trying to replicate this amazing collar I saw that was not crocheted (or even knitted). Needless to say, I failed. But this adorable little collar came about instead and I can’t be mad about it!
I made it using chunky velvet yarn and it is super soft and surprisingly light weight. It can be worn in a few different ways, but I think the best way by far is with a spider pin to look like a spider web.
This spider pin was relatively cheap at Hobby Lobby on their 50% off sale. Pictured is Lion Brand Vellux double strands in the color Charcoal.
I bought the spider pin at Hobby Lobby when it was 50% off. They actually have several different spider pins, from gaudy to simple and I had SUCH a hard time choosing which one to go with. I will tell you these have sold like hot cakes at my vendor markets in the Fall, especially with the spider pin attached. If you plan to sell these, I recommend buying the pins and reselling them on your collar.
I have also made my own spider pin by using a spider from the decoration section at Walmart and hot glued a pin onto the back of it.
II bought a pack of spider decorations from Walmart and hot glued some felt and a pin onto the back. It looks VERY realistic!
They are a very quick project and don’t require much yarn, and there’s a wide variety of velvet yarns available to choose from. You technically could use any size 5 bulky weight yarn (single strand) or any size 4 ww yarn (double strands) if you aren’t a fan of the velvet yarn.
You could also make it bigger by following the pattern concept and turn it into a full-blown poncho if you wanted to. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Supplies Needed:
-Approx. 250 yds of any bulky weight size 5 yarn (or double strands held together for a size 4 ww yarn) I like using Lion Brand Vel-luxe
-Size N 10.0 mm hook or size needed to obtain gauge (NOTE: I use a size N 9.0 mm hook in the video because I crochet very loosely)
-Scissors, yarn needle, measuring tape, stitch marker

Beginning - beg
Chain - ch
Fasten Off – FO
Place Marker - PM
Repeat - rep
Single Crochet - sc
Slip Stitch(es) - sl st(s)
Stitch(es) - st(s)
Stitch Marker - SM
Space(s) - sp(s)
Together - tog
Gauge:
9 sc and 8 rows = 4" (10 cm)
Finished Meausurements:
Neck portion measures approx. 14"
Length measures approx. 8.5"
Instructions:
Collar is worked top down in the round. Because the sts can be difficult to see, I recommend using a SM at the beg of each round to ensure you don’t accidentally increase or decrease.
Leaving about a 5" tail for sewing purposes later, ch 53.
Round 1: Turn, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across. Being very careful not to twist your ch, join ends tog and sl st to form a ring.
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, 2 sc, * sc next 3 sts, 2 sc; rep from * to end. Join with a sl st in first sc. [65 sc]
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in first 4 sts, 2 sc, * sc next 4 sts, 2 sc; rep from * to end. Join with a sl st in first sc. [78 sc]
Round 4: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with a sl st in first sc. [78 sc]
(NOTE: You will want to utilize a SM from here on out. PM in first st of every round, moving it as you go.)
Round 5: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 6, * sk 5 sts, sc next st, ch 6; rep from * around. Join with a sl st in first sc. [13 sc, 13 ch-6 sps]
Round 6: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 7, * sk next ch sp, sc next sc, ch 7; rep from * around. Join with a sl st in first sc. [13 sc, 13 ch-7 sps]
Round 7: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 9, * sk next ch sp, sc next sc, ch 9; rep from * around. Join with a sl st in first sc. [13 sc, 13 ch-9 sps]
Round 8: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 11, * sk next ch sp, sc next sc, ch 11; rep from * around. Join with a sl st in first sc. [13 sc, 13 ch-11 sps]
Round 9: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 13, * sk next ch sp, sc next sc, ch 13; rep from * around. Join with a sl st in first sc. [13 sc, 13 ch-13 sps]
Round 10: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 15, * sk next ch sp, sc next sc, ch 15; rep from * around. Join with a sl st in first sc. [13 sc, 13 ch-15 sps]
Round 11: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 17, * sk next ch sp, sc next sc, ch 17; rep from * around. Join with a sl st in first sc. [13 sc, 13 ch-17 sps]
Round 12: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 19, * sk next ch sp, sc next sc, ch 19; rep from * around. Join with a sl st in first sc. [13 sc, 13 ch-19 sps]
If you wish to make your collar larger, simply continue the pattern repeats, adding 2 chs to each loop around in each round you do. FO and weave in ends. Use beg tail to sew gap closed between first and last st of Round 1. If you wish to buy the spider pin you see pictured, I got it at Hobby Lobby.
