Crochet Wrist Wallet
This adorable crochet wrist wallet puts the “fun” in functional!

It’s one of my weird obsessions to come up with crochet designs that are cute, useful, and have multiple purposes. If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you probably have noticed that I usually include multiple ways to improvise my pattern to make something different, or make it a different size and give it a whole new purpose, and this wrist wallet is no exception.
This wrist wallet/cup cozy might actually look really familiar to you. This is actually a remake of my previous Bowtique Pocket design. They look almost identical in that they are both bow cuff wrist wallets and can double as a cup cozy, but my Bowtique Pocket is a bit advanced in technique and not at all fast to make. The pocket is also noticeably on the outside of the wrist wallet, instead of hidden on the inside (as pictured below).
I decided to give my Bowtique Pocket a complete overhaul and recreate the look while making it much faster and easier to whip up. I think that you are going to love this project as much as I do now that it’s a whole lot easier to make!
it makes a great christmas gift
Another thing I think you’re going to love about this project is the fact that it makes a perfect Christmas gift. Whether you are making it for a stocking stuffer for a loved one, or whipping one up for your coffee-loving friend, this project will be both desirable and useful to the receiver.
it’s budget-friendly
My favorite thing to do is buy those cute reusable coffee cups from Dollar General that are 2 for $1 (I didn’t even realize you could buy anything for 50 cents these days that wasn’t in a gumball machine LOL), but these cups are the cutest and are super budget friendly. They only come out to around $2.50 total in supplies (before adding a gift card, of course!).
I then buy a gift card to either Starbucks or Dunkin’ and put it in the little pocket of the wallet as part of the gift. I slide the wallet on the cup to complete the gift. Isn’t it adorable?!
I will say you should be sure to tell the person receiving this gift how it works. I always walk them through the fact that it can be a cup cozy to keep your hands from getting burned, or they can wear it on their wrist to hold some cash and a card while running errands.
it’s great for new moms
I have found that new moms really like this sort of gift because it allows them to carry their money in an easy-to-find place and leave their purse at home or in the car. It’s great to have one less bag to carry around; especially when you’ve got a baby in a carseat and a diaperbag to carry.
it’s great for concerts and festivals
It’s also really great for people who like to go to concerts and events that don’t allow a handbag inside the premises. My husband and I recently went to a small-town comedy show at a very small event center that didn’t even allow handbags inside. So it is very handy to have in situations like this as well.
it’s great for traveling
It’s also a great gift to give people who love to travel. Having your money on your wrist is a whole lot harder to steal than a bag on your shoulder. It’s also a lot easier to carry just the essentials on your wrist when sightseeing. Carrying a heavy bag gets tiresome after a while; especially if you are doing a lot of walking or outdoor activities.
It’s also great to wear at the airport when traveling. I like to keep my driver’s license handy for when I am going through the ticket line. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve lost my driver’s license by carrying it in my purse!
it’s great for dates or prom night
This wrist wallet would also be great for a date night outfit instead of carrying a bag. It would be very simple to dress up with some dressier embellishments or yarn. I could even see girls finding this useful for Prom night so they wouldn’t have to try and keep up with a bag.
What would you use it for? I would love to hear your ideas in the comments below!
Let’s make it!
I’ve included a full video tutorial to help with the most difficult portions of this pattern. You can watch it here:
Supplies needed
60-70 yds. of any medium worsted weight yarn (size 4) My personal favorite so far is Lion Brand’s Lazy Days. It’s got a bit of stretch and it’s super soft. It’s also very sturdy and washable.
Size 3.75 mm hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
Small button or bead in inconspicuous color (around 8 mm in size is best)
Scissors, tape measure, tapestry needle

Pattern Notes
Beginning chs will not count as a st throughout the pattern.
This design could be made using a thinner (size 3) yarn if desired; however, if you improvise using a thinner yarn, be sure to have a credit card nearby to be sure your pocket is big enough to hold the card.
Gauge is fairly important in this pattern, or your wallet might be too small to hold a card, or your cozy might be too small/large to fit your chosen coffee mug.
If you choose to use a larger button for your wallet closure, be sure to test the button loop to be sure it’s big enough before fastening off.
Gauge
8 dc and 4.5 rows = 2 inches. Gauge is important for this pattern.
finished measurements
Finished piece measures approx. 3.75 x 5 inches when laying flat.
instructions
Wallet is worked in the round for the body, then in the row for the pocket portion. After sewing the pocket portion, you will cinch and sew the front in the center to make a bow appearance. The entire piece will be turned inside out at the very end to place the pocket seam on the inside of the wallet to make it less obvious. The bow portion also looks much better with the WS facing out.
body
Round 1: Ch 35. Being careful to not twist your ch bring your last st to meet your first st to form a ring. Working in the BLO sc in the first st and in each st around. Join with a sl st in first sc. [35 sc]
Rounds 2-8: Ch 2, working in both loops dc in each st around. Sk over ch 2 and join with a sl st in first dc. [35 dc]
Round 9: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with a sl st in first sc. [35 sc] Do not fasten off.
Row 1: Ch 2, working in the FLO dc in the first 10 sts. [10 dc FLO]
Rows 2-7: Ch 2, turn, working through both loops dc in each st across. [10 dc]
Row 8: Ch 2, turn, dc in first 5 sts, ch 5, sl st in 5th ch from hook to create button loop, dc in last 5 sts of the row. [10 dc, 1 ch-5 loop] To visualize the button loop portion, see my video here.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing purposes.
assembly
step 1
Fold the pocket rows to meet Round 1 of the body. Using the end tail, sew the side seam. Sew opposite side seam as well. Weave in all tails.
step 2
Cut another length of yarn approx. 20 inches in length. Cinch the center area of the body that is opposite to the pocket so that you have 2 center fold between the outer rows. Sew through these layers to secure. Knot tails to keep in place.
step 3
Take the excess tail and wrap around the center. Be careful to keep your wraps lined up and together, especially on the underside, as this will be the front of the bow and will be noticeable.
step 4
Tie the ends together in several knots, then hide them under the wrapped portion, cutting off the excess. (NOTE: You could also realistically glue some felt or ribbon over the cinched area to add some flair instead of wrapping your yarn here.)
Turn your piece inside out. Sew the button on the front of the pocket at the level of the button loop. (NOTE: I personally used a clear button so the pocket would be less noticeable.)

For the green cup pictured below I sewed a piece of faux leather vinyl around the center of the bow instead of wrapping yarn around it. You could realistically use any kind of ribbon or a decorative button in the center to add your own flair. Just be mindful of how bulky it is or how irritating the material might become when against the skin.

Happy Hooking!
