Quick & Easy Addi Gift Bags

PIN it here!

'Tis the season to wait til the last minute, am I right?!

I am the world’s WORST procrastinator, especially when it comes to making or buying Christmas gifts. I don’t know why I torture myself by waiting, but I guess you could say I am just too stupid to learn from my mistakes LOL!

Every year at this time I am always looking for cute little gifts that are useful and desirable, yet gender neutral and won’t break the bank (might as well play the lottery..) BUT—this year I think I have found the perfect gift idea and I wanted to share them with you!

The entire gift costs right at $5 and it can be given to anybody who likes cookies (and you could even change that item very easily). It is super quick and easy, and I can’t wait to show you how I made it!

Let’s get to it!

Supplies Needed:

-Approx. 70-80 yds of bag body color

-Approx. 10-15 yds of faux fur trim (size 6 super bulky weight, NOT size 7 jumbo weight)

-Enough waste yarn for 5 rows

-A 5.0 mm crochet hook

-Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

Terms Used and Abbreviations:

Pattern is written in US terminology.

Chain(s) - ch(s)

Fasten Off - FO

Single Crochet – sc

Slip Stitch - sl st

Stitch(es) - st(s)

Gauge:

5 rows = 1" using medium tension for knitted portion. Gauge for crocheted portion is not imperative.

Finished Measurements:

Knitted tube should measure approx. 14" (35.5 cm) stretched and laying flat.

Instructions:

Cast on in desired bag color. Complete 50 rows in bag color and cut yarn. Switch to waste yarn and complete 5 rows. Cast off.

Tube should measure approx. 14" (35.5 cm) stretched and laying flat.

Using tail from cast-on end, cinch bottom closed. Reinforce stitches and hide tail.

With your 5.0 mm crochet hook and your same yarn used for the bag body, Join with a sl st in first st of row 50. Ch 1, sc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in first sc and FO. Remove waste yarn.

With your faux fur yarn and your 5.0 mm hook, join in any st of row 51. Ch 1 and sc in each st around. Join with a sl st in first sc and FO, weaving in all tails.

You will find that this bag is VERY stretchy and will be great for gifts that are oddly shaped. You could even make it bigger by adding more rows. It would be really cute as a wine bottle gift bag, but truly, the sky is the limit!

Now you can embellish your bag any way you desire. I used about 36" (91 cm) of wire ribbon found at Walmart in the Christmas wrapping section. I simply wrapped it around the top portion and tied it as if I were tying my shoes, and then cut the ends of the ribbon to clean them up. I also added a tag from Walmart that really added a lot of character. To visualize this process, see my video.

For the gift itself, I bought a bag of cookie mix from Walmart for $1.68 and a dish towel for $1 at Dollar General.  I also bought the most adorable engraved wooden spoons from Dollar General for only $1 each! The total cost of the gift is around $5 and I am really pleased with how beautiful it really looks. To see the items I placed in my gift bag, see my video.
