Boho Sanitizer Sling
I came up with these sanitizer slings because I was tired of the bottle taking up so much room in my purse. It is very handy hanging in the holster, especially when shopping or eating out. The last thing you want to be doing when you need hand sanitizer is touching everything in your purse with your dirty hands while trying to find your sanitizer— am I right?
It’s made with 100% cotton, so it is easily washable and very durable. Another great thing about these little sanitizer holsters is that they make a really awesome gift! With Christmas just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about that! You could stuff a stocking with it, or add it to a nice purse as a set.
I also think it would make a great handmade gift for teachers. I know it can be a challenge to buy for your kids’ teachers, but this truly would be perfect! No one needs help keeping the germs away more than a teacher around kids all day LOL!
I purchased my 3 oz. bottle of hand sanitizer from Wal-Mart. It’s their Equate brand and it is rectangular in shape (this pattern is written for rectangular shaped sanitizer bottles).
The yarn I also get from Wal-Mart, but you can use any size 4 worsted weight cotton you deem fit. I know Knitpicks from WeCrochet carries an amazing cotton I love so much called Dishie, and Peaches n’ Cream have really upped their game with their latest Stripey yarns. It is really soft in comparison to what they used to feel like (I can’t stand working with scratchy cotton, YUCK). And Walmart has even started carrying their own line of surprisingly soft 100% cotton yarn in a nice variety of colors!
I have even used cotton twine I found at the dollar store in the hardware/paint section for these little holsters. They feel a lot like macrame cotton cord, and I love that I can brush it out like macrame cording and get the beautiful tassel definition with a little bit of Aleene’s Stiffen Quick. Here’s a photo of one I used the dollar store twine and Stiffen Quick on the tassel:
Alright, enough of my rambling! Let’s get down to pattern business!

Empty sling measures approx. 3.5” (9 cm) in length and 3” (7 cm) in width.
Instructions:
The sling created from the bottom up in the continuous round. You will need a SM. As you place your first st of every round, move your SM. You may want to try your sling onto your sanitizer bottle every couple of rounds to make sure it fits properly.
Beg by ch 12. Sl st in first st to create a ring.
Round 1: Working into the ring, ch 1 (does not count as a st from here on out). Make 20 sc into ring. [20 sc]
Round 2: (PM in first st of this round and in the first st of every round from here on out) 2 sc in first st, sc in next 8 sts, {2 sc} in next 2 sts, sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in last st. [24 sc]
Round 3: Working in the BLO: 2 sc in first st, sc in next 10 sts, {2 sc} in next 2 sts, sc in next 10 sts, 2 sc in last st. [28 sc in the BLO]
Round 4: Working in both loops again: Sc in every st around. [28 sc]
Rounds 5-19: Rep Round 4.
Add your clip
The front flap closure is made in the row. You will add your clip to your flap by making sc into the clip itself.
Row 1: Sl st into the next 2 sts. Ch 1, turn. Grab your purse clip:
1) Place the clip between your working yarn and your hook. Sl st into the clip ring.
2) Place your hook in the next st. YO and draw up a loop.
3) Place your clip ring back between your working yarn and your hook.
4) Going through the ring, YO and draw through 2 loops on your hook.
Rep steps 2-4 until you have 7 sc inside your clip ring. [7 sc]
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in every st across. [7 sc]
Rows 3-12: Rep Row 2.
Row 13: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog over first 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog over last 2 sts. [5 sc]
Row 14: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog over first 2 sts, sc in next st, sc2tog over last 2 sts. [3 sc]
Row 15: Ch 1, turn. Sc3tog over last 3 sts. [1sc] FO and weave in tails.
Add your beaded tassel
This is for embellishment purposes only. Cut a length of yarn approx. 6” (15 cm) long. Fold in half and attach to last sc of front flap using the Larks Knot, like you would a piece of fringe on a blanket. Slide your wooden bead up both strands of the fringe and open bottom strands.
Wrap a piece of cardboard (or about 3 fingers) that is 2” (5 cm) wide approx. 12 times and cut bottoms to create tassel tails. Lay tassel tails below wooden bead inside fringe ends and tie the ends around the tassel tails.
Before you cut your tassel to the length you desire, I recommend putting your sanitizer inside your holder so you know exactly where to cut. Cut ends evenly.
Add your snap
With the bottle inside your holder, sew a snap on the inside flap near the tip and on the outside of your holder at the desired level. For me, that was between rounds 11-13 of the front of the sling.
