Quick and Easy Gifts to Crochet for Teachers
Teacher Appreciation Week is just around the corner (the first week of May!), and many of us makers like to show our appreciation through handmade gifts.
It can be very frustrating trying to find the perfect gift to make for the great teachers who invest in our children, so I have tried to find a list of makes that I think would be greatly appreciated by teachers all around and save you a bit of time in your search.
My personal idea to contribute would be to make them a hanging planter and add a card from your child that says, “Thank you for helping me grow!” I have several planter patterns, but if you have multiple teachers to make for, my recommendation would be the Pixie Planter. It requires very little yarn and you can make one in fewer than 30 minutes (I can personally make one in 15 minutes). They are adorable and are sure to put a smile on their face!
Without ever leaving your house, you can order a pack of air plants on Amazon for relatively cheap, or you can put a tiny pot in them with some succulents. If you wish to buy them in person, Lowe’s has a large selection of beautiful plants that are perfect for these little planters.
I have included a free printable card to include with your planter to help you save time and money. You can find the free pattern to my Pixie Planter on my blog or an ad-free printable pdf in both Etsy and Ravelry.
Most teachers love a good cup of coffee or tea, and these adorable Pencil Cup Cozies by CJ Walker are quick to make and super cute to boot! Make a quick trip to the Dollar Store and you can get reusable coffee tumblers for relatively cheap. If you are feeling extra generous, throw in a gift card to their favorite coffee shop! They are sure to appreciate the kind gesture and make good use of the gift card, tumbler, and cozy. You can find CJ’s pattern in his Etsy shop.
Another adorable cup cozy that I absolutely LOVE is the Loose Leaf Cup Cozy by Ashley Edmonds. This one would be perfect for stitching a sweet message or the teacher’s name on the lines of the “paper”. You could even stitch “Thank you” on it. The possibilities are endless! You could also add the coffee tumbler and the gift card to a favorite coffee shop to make it even more special. You can find the free pattern on Ashley’s blog here.
Your child’s teacher may also appreciate this adorable Farmhouse Apple pattern by Lindsey Woody. I love that this pattern would be a great home décor item in the Fall, but it would be an awesome gift to give a teacher as well.
If you wanted to make it functional, you could add a cinnamon stick to the top or throw some apple cinnamon potpourri in a mesh bag inside to make it smell nice. You could even put some sand in a bag to weigh it down and make a functional and FUN paper weight!
If your teacher loves to wear earrings, you could also sub crochet thread and use a smaller hook to make tiny apple earrings or even a keychain. How cute would that be?! You can check out Lindsey’s pattern on both Etsy and Ravelry.
Speaking of apples and earrings, these Cross Stitched Apple Earrings by Alexandria Richards would make an adorable gift for a sweet teacher. They would be extremely quick to make and require very little by way of supplies. You could gift them as they are or throw in some apple-scented lotion and body spray from Bath and Body Works to make one super cute and useful gift! You can find her free pattern for these little earrings here.
Last but not least, I thought these Happy Crayons and Happy Pencils by Yarnfully Yours would be SUPER adorable as a teacher’s gift! They would be really quick to make and wouldn’t require much in supplies. You could make them into little keychains or hot glue a little magnet on the back for them to put on their fridge. You can find the Happy Crayons here and the Happy Pencils here.
I hope that you were inspired to make something cute and useful for your child’s teacher! Which one will you make? Let me know in the comments!
Happy Hooking,
Dana
