Mother’s Day is just around the corner and if you’re looking for a thoughtful gift to crochet for the special women in your life, you’ve come to the right place!

I’ve compiled a short list of fairly quick projects that are sure to be appreciated by mothers all around!

Makeup Lover

If your mom is all about looking perfectly put together with a love for makeup, I’ve got a couple of cosmetic bag patterns that would be perfect as a gift.

The Puff Stitch Bag is a beautiful little cosmetic bag that can be easily dressed up or down and can be made in any size. My favorite yarn to use for these is Caron Pantone X from Yarnspirations because they have gorgeous color palettes already put together for you and it only takes 1 hank to make a 5” x 7” bag with a little left over.

In my tutorial I show you my technique for how I make a zippered lining that you can crochet right into for a professional and finished look. It’s so much fun to match your lining and add some complimentary beads to the tassel on the zipper! I even include a YouTube video tutorial for how I make my zippered lining and you can find it here.  You can find the free pattern for the bag on YouTube, or you can buy the ad-free printable pdf in both my Etsy and Ravelry shops.

With my method, I show you how to crochet right into the zipper lip to make a beautiful and professional finish.

I also have a YouTube video tutorial for my Bobble Bags, which are super fun to make in 2 contrasting yarns. I use the same method for lining these cosmetic bags and I think it would be another great option for the makeup-loving moms. You can find the YouTube video tutorial here.

Matching the lining and the beads to the bag is probably the most fun part of the whole project!

Both cosmetic bags are great gifts by themselves, but they would also be great in addition to some new brushes or a gift card to Ulta. Maybe you could even throw in some face scrubbies for makeup removal! Use your imagination!

Spa Lover

Speaking of face scrubbies, my spa sets make great gifts for Mother’s Day because all women love a beautiful but useful gift. Nothing is more appropriate for a hard-working mom than washcloths, soap sacks and face scrubbies! A spa day to pamper herself may be just what she needs. Get a nice basket for your handmade goodies and throw in a face mask, some nice handmade soaps, bubble bath, lotion—you get the idea! it would be greatly appreciated by moms everywhere! You can find the free patterns for the washcloth, soap sack, and face scrubbies on my YouTube channel.

This set would be great to put in a basket with some nice handmade soap, some bubble bath or bath salts, a face mask, and some lotion.

Book Lover

Speaking of bubble baths, I know I can’t be the only one who loves to read while relaxing in a nice bubble bath. If your mom loves to read, my free Braided Bookmark pattern would be a great handmade item to put with a nice new book you know she would enjoy. They can be made in 3 different styles and are super quick to make. They require very little by way of supplies and can be personalized very easily. You can add metallic letter beads to the bookmark tassel and spell her name or a sweet message. I also love to add little charms or pretty beads. Get creative! It will be something that is useful yet special to her. She will think of you with a smile every time she opens her book to read. You can find the free pattern to 3 different styles on my blog, or you can get the ad-free printable pdf in both my Etsy and Ravelry shops.

My blog post also includes link to free printable templates to package your bookmark with several color options.

Plant Lover

If your mom is someone who loves plants and keeps them indoors, I’ve got several hanging planter patterns that might interest you. All require very little in supplies and are extremely quick to make.

If your mom has an office with a cute boho feel, you could whip her up one of these adorable Macrochet Mini Planters and get an air plant to go with it. They are the perfect size to hang in a small office or even in an RV for your travel-loving mom. You can find the free pattern on my blog or you can purchase an ad-free printable pdf in both my Etsy and Ravelry shops. I have also included this pattern in a planter bundle that includes all 3 planters I mention in this blog post for a discounted price.

I have also included instructions for how I modified this pattern to make a super tiny one for the car as an essential oil diffuser. It would make a lovely gift if your mom appreciates essential oils and handmade items. Just throw a lava bead in the planter portion and add some nice essential oils for a perfect gift!

I also have this free Pixie Planter pattern that can hold a 2-4” pot, depending on what yarn and hook you choose to make it with. In my blog post, I include a free printable tag to go with your planter that says, “If mums were flowers, I would pick you”. I also included some that are appropriate for the other ladies in your life that you may want to give one to (like an aunt, a grandmother, a sister or a friend). You can also find the printable tags here

Here’s a photo of the free printable tag you could include with your planter.

All 3 Pixie Planters pictured were made using the exact same pattern, only different yarns and hooks. The far left was made using Jumbo 7 weight yarn and a P 12.0 mm hook and it holds a 4” pot. The middle was made using Big Twist Textile yarn from Joann’s and a size L 8.0 mm hook and it holds a 2” pot. The far right speckled yarn is a t-shirt yarn and I used a size L 8.0 mm hook and it holds a 3” pot.

I also have a lovely planter pattern I wrote specifically for 4-6” pots called the Dewdrop Planter. If your mom would love one for a larger plant, this would be the pattern that would probably interest you. You could still include the Mums tag and throw in some potted mums. How cute would that be?!

Since I don’t offer my Dewdrop Planter pattern for free anywhere, I have made a pattern bundle that gives you $2 off when you purchase all 3 of my planter patterns. You can find the bundle here. If you prefer to simply buy the pattern by itself, you can find it both my Etsy and Ravelry shops.

The Coffee Lover

If you haven’t had a chance to read my prior blog posts, I have a free pattern that would make a wonderful gift for a coffee-loving mom. If the mom you have in mind is still one that runs a lot of errands and loves to go-go-go, she will probably love this handmade crocheted gift.

My Bowtique Pocket design puts the FUN in functional! Not only does it function as a wrist wallet, it looks like an adorable cuff bracelet! It can also even be used as a coffee cozy to protect her hands while drinking her favorite cup of joe. You can purchase a nice reusable coffee tumbler, add a gift card to her favorite coffee shop, and put it on the tumbler to make a nice, useful gift! She will appreciate the multi-functionality of this design, especially if she likes to have her hands free while toting a toddler and running errands. You can find the free pattern here on my blog, or if you would like to have an ad-free printable pdf, you can find it in both my Etsy and Ravelry shops.
